DILWARA TEMPLES - INDIA

The Jain community is known for building and maintenance of temples. Because the Jain often walk barefoot to their temples, and cover their mouths with cloth to stop the inhalation of insects, their temples tended to be built in groups, rather than in isolation, one separate from the other. This made their pilgrimages easier. The exquisitely carved marble temples of Dilawara in Mount Abu ( Rajasthan - India) are the finest examples of Jain temples in India. They were built between the 11th and 13th centuries ( Vimal Vasahi was built in 1031 A.D., Lun Vasahi was built in 1231 AD.)
